Liverpool currently hosts an overflowing cauldron of musical talent, here are my top 3 bands/artists from around the city right now, to check out their sounds follow the link below for a playlist on Soundcloud.
3. Ali Ingle – I found Ali’s stuff whilst hunting down music for a short film I was creating in Uni. At the frist note I was drawn into the song Tornado and its upbeat and happy vibe led me to repeat it for a good half hour before moving on! With honest, gently disarming lyrics and captivating melodies his songs draw you in and force you to sit down and listen.
The Space-hopper video for Tornado is a winner!: Watch here!
2. Vandettes – Along with a few mates I was Called in last minuet to film a charity gig in The Cavern late last year, At the start I knew none of the bands playing but openers Vandettes made a lasting impact. The band from Northern Ireland came over for University and have stelled in Liverpool well, recently signed with Twin City records and gaining a fair blob of attention around the country including recommendations from BBC & NME.
A little acoustic version of ‘Let It All Go’ they did for Addistock Sessions on Youtube: Watch here!
1. The Mono LPs – Simply described as Rock’n’roll with a cello! As a self confessed “Monette” it will be no surprise to many of my friends that they have topped my list, I have forced most to jump on my bandwagon here so to speak. I found the band a few years ago, whilst exploring Soundcloud I stumbled upon Die A Little Death which has been one of my favorite songs ever since! The sound of the Mono’s is best experienced live where that unusual cello really comes into its own, so if you get the chance to catch them around the city or further afield make sure you take it!
Their new video for The Flame was released back on June 17th: Watch here!
