produced a live broadcast covering Hope’s annual Christmas Lights Festival Switch On.

Each year at Liverpool Hope University a celebrity is invited to perform the ceremonial illuminating of the Hope Park campus to welcome-in the Christmas season. This year, the Liverpool born cinematic and TV series star Paul Barber was the University’s guest of honour. Paul, known for his performances as Denzil in Only Fools and Horses (Sullivan, 1981-91) and Horse in the critically acclaimed British working class comedy film, The Full Monty (Cattaneo, 1997) (to name but two of  his roles from a long list of noteworthy acting achievements) survived the bleak winter weather to entertain the seasonally enthusiastic crowd. The large crowd gathered around Hope’s iconic New Gate arch sculpture and joined in the countdown… ten…nine… eight…… A thunderous great cheer erupted as the count down reached one and the lights were switched into being.  The festive celebrations moved on into Our Place (Hope’s main refectory / entertainment space), where our two intrepid reporters (Jo Ashurst and Will Grunnill [pictured in the feature photograph]) caught up with Paul and produced an interview (to listen please click on the link) for THIS Radio.
